made popular, in Australia, by
Primary Connections.
Worksheets are provided for many activities, as well as
extra teacher information to assist in presenting the
science.
If used as a complete product, Understanding Healthy Waterways would form part of the basis for a primary school curriculum. Or teachers can choose to use part of the package as it fits in with their own science plan.
Assessment suggestions linked to the national Statements of Learning are included as well.
Students will learn about some of the parameters used by
Waterwatch to monitor waterway health:
• TURBIDITY
• TEMPERATURE
• SALINITY
• HABITAT
Each parameter is covered by a separate sequence of lessons
(view contents page - as a pdf
file 505Kb) containing outlines for hands-on activities
to help them understand the importance of water to life,
and the impact of the physical environment on our
natural waterways.
